“MY OFFICE IS THE ROAD” – ROADS MINISTER KWAME GOVERNS AGBODZA
Roads Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza says his frequent presence on project sites is necessary to monitor road works, ensure quality and protect public funds.

Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, has defended his frequent presence on roads and project sites, saying there is “absolutely no reason” for him to spend most of his time sitting in the office.
According to the Minister, the work of the Roads and Highways Ministry is largely field-based, requiring him and his team to constantly inspect roads and monitor ongoing projects.
«“It is not a ministry of staying in the office. It is a ministry of roads and highways. So we are on the highway, we are on the roads, we are doing our work.”»
Mr. Agbodza said if he had his way, he would have his computer and other office equipment in his vehicle because his responsibilities require him to be on the road.
He explained that regular site inspections are necessary to ensure contractors are doing what they are supposed to do and that government gets value for money.
The Minister also dismissed concerns about why he personally visits project sites so frequently, comparing road monitoring to building a house: you cannot simply hand the project over to a contractor and return only when the work is completed.
For Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, the road is not a place he visits occasionally — it is where his job demands that he be.
“Somebody sitting in the office and drinking tea” may not fully understand what happens on the ground, he suggested.
Do you agree with the Minister that the Roads Minister’s office should be the road?
